OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Volleyball team won its match against No. 25 Alaska Fairbanks in a 3-0 sweep on Thursday, October 8 at The Evergreen State College.
Saint Martin's saw a 39-32 advantage in kills and hit .303 percent as a team in the victory. During the match, senior Emily Garten surpassed the Saint Martin's program record for career points.
The victory improve the team's record to 7-9 overall and 3-5 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- Saint Martin's fell behind 5-0 out of the gates, but responded quickly and eventually saw a 7-1 run push the team ahead 13-9. The Nanooks later embarked on a 6-0 run to pull ahead 18-16. After the set evened out at 19-19, Saint Martin's closed out the set on a 6-2 run and took a 25-23 win to go up 1-0 in the match.
- In the second set the Saints fell behind 7-2, but once again came roaring back and tied the set at 8-8. After an exchange of runs by each team, a 5-0 string of points by the Saints put the home team up 16-12. Saint Martin's embarked on another 4-0 run to go up 21-14 and carried out a 25-17 win to pull ahead 2-0 in the match.
- The Saints won the third set by their largest margin of the match, winning 25-16. Saint Martin's pulled ahead 10-4 and later pulled ahead 19-10. The Saints led by as much as 10 points and went on to win 25-16, securing the sweep.
