Saints split series 2-2 at Bushnell

EUGENE, Ore. — The Saint Martin's Baseball team put two more in the win column this weekend, going 2-2 against Bushnell across back-to-back doubleheaders in Eugene, Oregon on Feb. 13-14.

After dropping the first two games of the series, the Saints bounced back and won two hard-fought games on day two of the series, with the finale coming down to 10 innings of play. The series moved the Saints' record to 4-7 on the season, surpassing the program's win total from last season.

Game 1: Saint Martin's 1, Bushnell 12

  • The Saints tallied two doubles in the first inning, one of which was an RBI double by Evan Nicol to score Zen Staszkow and give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Saint Martin's was limited to two more hits throughout the rest of the game, as Bushnell pulled away.
  • The Beacons responded with two runs in the bottom of the second off a balk and RBI single.
  • Bushnell scored two more runs in the bottom of the third off two RBI singles, and added three runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to pull away and win 12-1.

Game 2: Saint Martin's 1, Bushnell 9

  • Similar to game one, the Saints' bats struggled, as the team totaled just two hits.
  • Bushnell jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the second with two RBI singles.
  • The Beacons added a run in the fourth, four in the seventh, and two in the eighth to build a solid 9-0 lead.
  • Saint Martin's got on the board in the top of the eighth, as Bransyn Hong singled to score Brenden Haverlock.

Top Performers

Game 3: Saint Martin's 7, Bushnell 5

  • The Saints bounced back on day two, but started off down 2-0 after the first inning, as Bushnell scored off an RBI single and fielder's choice.
  • The Saints erupted for six runs in the top of the second, as the Saints loaded the bases with one out. Isaac Hoag and Carson Dunn both walked with bases loaded, tying the game at 2-2. 
    • Bransyn Hong hit a sacrifice fly, before Rylan Miyasaki singled to score a run.
    • Evan Nicol kept the rally going with a two-RBI double, giving the Saints a 6-2 lead.
  • Bushnell trimmed the Saints' lead to 6-5 with one run in the bottom of the second off an RBI single and two runs in the bottom of the third off a two-run home run.
  • The Saints cushioned their lead in the top of the sixth with a solo home run by Isaac Hoag.
  • The Saint Martin's pitching staff kept the Beacons off the board in the final six innings, helping the team secure a 7-5 victory.

Top Performers

  • Isaac Hoag went 1-2 with two RBIs and two runs.
  • Blaze Wong improved to 2-1 on the season, pitching 5.2 innings and striking out four batters.
  • Luke Fulkerson secured the save, pitching 3.1 innings in relief and striking out six batters. He allowed no runs and gave up just two hits.

Game 4: Saint Martin's 13, Bushnell 10

  • The final game of the series was a high-scoring affair, which took 10 innings to decide. Each team tallied 12 total hits and double-digit runs scored.
  • After a single in the top of the first by Noah Albanese resulted in two runs scoring and an early 2-0 lead, Saint Martin's fell behind 7-1 heading into the fourth inning after the Beacons' bats came alive in the first three innings.
  • The Saints answered with an offensive eruption, scoring three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth.
  • The Beacons added a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Saints' pitching staff kept Bushnell off the board in the following two innings.
  • In the bottom of the ninth, the Beacons scored off an RBI double, before the Saints recorded two outs. One out from the game ending, Bushnell scored the tying run on a single to right field, knotting the game at 10-10 and forcing extra innings.
  • In the top of the 10th, Saint Martin's scored three runs, doing so off an RBI double by Isaac Hoag, before the Saints added two more runs off a fielding error, giving the team a commanding 13-10 lead.
  • The beacons moved runners to second and third with one out in the bottom of the 10th, but Bryson Nakamoto retired the final two batters on a strikeout and groundout to secure a 13-10 win for Saint Martin's.

The Saints will host the 2026 home opener and debut of the program's new turf field, hosting Bushnell for doubleheaders on Feb. 21 and Feb. 22.
