Saints drop first game of series at Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. —The Saint Martin's Baseball team lost the first game of its series at Cal State East Bay, falling by a score of 13-4.

The Saints found the scoreboard late in the game, but a massive third inning by the Pioneers tilted the game in favor of Cal State East Bay. The loss dropped the Saints' record to 6-9 on the season.

How It Happened

  • Cal State East Bay started off the game with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, doing so off an RBI double and two-RBI home eun.
  • The Pioneers erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third inning, after a lineout started the inning. Cal State East Bay loaded the bases with two outs, before a massive rally saw eight runs scored, putting Saints behind 11-0.
  • In the top of the fourth, the Saints cut into the deficit, adding a solo home run from Isaac Hoag.
  • Saint Martin's kept the Pioneers off the board four four straight innings.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Saints rallied for three runs, doing so off a groundout by Noah Albanese to score Alohi Arecchi and a two-RBI home run from Carson Dunn.
  • Saint Martin's was unable to cut into the deficit any further, as Cal State East Bay added two runs in the bottom of the eight and went on to win 14-3.

Top Performers

  • Carson Dunn went 2-4, tallying two RBIs and scoring one run.
  • Tyler Young pitched one scoreless inning in relief, striking out two batters.
