Saints Softball ends THE Spring Game with 2-0 day, capping off undefeated trip to Florida

BARTOW, Fla. — The Saint Martin's Softball team finished the last day of THE Spring Games going 2-0, finishing off the week-long tournament with a perfect 8-0 record.

The wins improved the Saints' record to 14-11 on the season heading into conference play next week.

Saint Martin's 8, Hillsdale 5

  • The Saints built a steady 4-0 lead after two innings, as Kaylee Walker hit an RBI single in the first inning, which was followed by a two-RBI double from Heather Ebner and another RBI single from Walker in the second.
  • Hillsdale cut into the lead with two runs in the third and one in the fifth, but the Saints answered with a three-run sixth inning to push ahead 7-3. Kaylee Walker hit a two-RBI single and Layla Royle doubled to score Walker.
  • Hillsdale scored two in the bottom of the sixth, but the Saints added another run in the top of the seventh to walk away victorious 8-5.
  • Shelby Lawson went 2-3 with three runs.
  • Kaylee Walker went 3-4 with four RBIs and one run.
  • Haley Agena, Shelby Lawson, Heather Ebner, and Layla Royle all recorded two-hit games.
  • Kayla Vaughan pitched up her third win of the season, and Amanda Peterson earned her second save of the year.

Saint Martin's 13, Lake Erie 2

  • A massive nine-run first inning set the tone for the final game of the tournament, as the Saints racked up seven hits and nearly went through the order twice. 
  • The Saints held the Storm scoreless for the first four innings,and added four more runs in the bottom of the third to create a lopsided 13-0 lead. Lake Erie scored two runs in the top of the fifth, as the Saints carried out a 13-2 victory.
  • Haley Agena went 2-2 with two runs and one RBI.
  • Shelby Lawson went 1-2 with two RBIs and one run.
  • Eva Spencer went 2-2 with one RBI.
  • Eleven different Saints recorded a hit, and 10 tallied at least one RBI.
  • Keagan Norfleet picked up the win, throwing three scoreless innings in which she allowed just one hit and struck out three.

Up Next
The Saints will host Northwest Nazarene for doubleheaders on March 20 and March 21 at Saints Softball Field, the first GNAC games of the season.
