Saints Baseball swept at home against Northwest Nazarene

LACEY, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Baseball team was swept in its four-game series at home against Northwest Nazarene, which took place at Saints Baseball Field on March 14 and March 16.

The Saints held a late lead in game four and were tied going into the ninth of game one, but ultimately suffered four losses to see the team's record drop to 8-19 overall and 0-8 in GNAC play.

Saint Martin's 1, Northwest Nazarene 7

  • Hudson Normand pitched seven innings in the start and allowed just one run on seven hits, while striking out three batters. His quality start earned him GNAC Pitcher of the Week honors, as the Saints went into the ninth inning tied at 1-1.
  • A groundout by Isaac Hoag in the bottom of the first scored Noah Albanese.
  • NNU responded in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
  • In the top of the ninth inning, the Nighthawks erupted for six runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead that held through the final out. NNU capitalized off five hits in the inning. The Saints were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth and fell 7-1.
  • Alohi Arecchi went 2-4.

Saint Martin's 4, Northwest Nazarene 7

  • Once again a large chunk of the game saw a 1-1 tie, as each team scored one run in the first inning — the Saints did so off a Dillon Andres walk with the bases loaded.
  • In the top of the fourth, Northwest Nazarene scored three runs, doing so off an RBI single, RBI double, and a groundout that scored a run.
  • The Nighthawks padded the lead to 6-1 by scoring one run in each of the fifth and sixth innings.
  • The Saints started to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth, as Bransyn Hong hit an RBI single to score Zion Ishikawa. One at-bat later Hong was picked off at first, but Alohi Arecchi scored from third on the throw to cut the deficit down to 6-3.
  • NNU added a run in the top of the seventh off a bases-loaded walk.
  • Evan Nicol snigled in Noah Albanese in the bottom of the seventh, but the Saints were unable to make up any further ground and fell by a final score of 7-4.
  • Alohi Arecchi went 2-3 with one run.

Saint Martin's 0, Northwest Nazarene 2

  • The first game of the day on Monday was close-knit, as NNU held a 1-0 advantage for the majority of the game. The Nighthawks scored a run in the top of the second off an error that scored a runner.
  • The Saints out-hit the Nighthawks 6-5 and moved runners to scoring position in four innings, but were unable to score any runs.
  • NNU added a run in the top of the eighth off an RBI single, building a 2-0 lead that would hold through the final out.
  • Carson Dunn, Alohi Arecchi, Noah Albanese, Evan Nicol, Kyle Schabot, and Kelton Tom each tallied one hit.
  • Blaze Wong pitched eight innings and allowed two unearned runs off five hits, while striking out five batters. He notched his 100th career strikeout during the start.
  • Bryson Nakamoto pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

Saint Martin's 4, Northwest Nazarene 7

  • The Saints built an early 2-1 lead after two innings, as Alohi Arecchi doubled in a run and Spencer Siegel singled to score Peter Hollabaugh.
  • Saint Martin's pulled ahead 4-1 with a two-RBI single by Arecchi in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Northwest Nazarene scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Saints' lead to 4-3.
  • The Nighthawks rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to shift the scales and take a 7-4 lead, snatching a victory over the Saints. NNU scored off an RBI single, sacrifice fly, and two-RBI single.
    • The Saints were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Alohi Arecchi and Spencer Siegel each tallied two-hit days. Arecchi tallied three RBIs.
  • Bransyn Hong, Peter Hollabaugh, Ethan Akagi, and Ryden Sasaki all scored runs.
  • Luke Fulkerson threw five innings, allowing three runs off two hits and striking out two batters.
  • Bryson Nakamoto pitched a scoreless inning of relief in which he struck out two Nighthawks.
