TACOMA, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Track & Field program opened the 2026 outdoor season with a strong performance across the board at the Ed Boitano Invitational in Tacoma, Washington on March 6-7.

The Saints saw a school record in the women's discus from Janess Blackburn, along with six other program top-10 marks. Saint Martin's placed ninth on the men's side with 24.5 points and 10th in the women's with 13 points.

In total, the Saints totaled 29 career bests across the two-day event.

How It Happened

• In the women's discus, freshman Janess Blackburn burst onto the scene in her collegiate debut, throwing a school-record 44.81 meters to place first overall. Her throw is just outside the GNAC all-time top-10 list.
  • Blackburn also placed sixth in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 42.35 meters.
• Makhi Odoms started off the year with a resounding start, winning the men's long jump with a mark of 7.13 meters — he set three career-bests on the way to scoring first overall in the event.
• Gage Pedro was productive across the throwing events, placing second in the hammer throw with a mark of 52.62 meters, a mark that ranks fifth in the Saint Martin's record book.
  • Pedro also placed third in the discus with a throw of 46.97 meters, ranking second all-time in the Saints' record book.
• In the men's javelin, Zander Peck placed fourth with a throw of 61.19 meters, ranking second all-time at Saint Martin's.
• LaMarcus Hinton added to the top-10 marks from the weekend, placing seventh in the men's long jump with a score of 6.46 meters, a mark that ranks seventh all-time in the Saint Martin's record book.
