BURNABY, B.C. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory in its neutral site match against Westmont in Burnaby, B.C. on Saturday, August 29.
The game was a scoreless battle late into the second half, until a 77th-minute goal from Jonathan Wright tipped the scales in favor of Saint Martin's. The win improved the Saints' record to 2-0 on the season.
How It Happened
- Saint Martin's and Westmont played out a scoreless first half, while holding a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.
- Within the first 10:16 of gametime in the second half, the Saints amassed four shot attempts. Saint Martin's limited Westmont from tallying any shots until the 66th minute, when Connor Lesitiko made a save on a shot on goal to keep the game scoreless. Lesitiko made another save in the 70th minute to continue the shutout.
- In the 77th minute, junior Jonathan Wright found the back of the net with the decisive goal of the match off a cross, doing so off assists from Corbin Herrera and Kodyn Flynn.
- Westmont tallied four shots, one on goal, during the remainder of the match, but the Saints limited an equalizer to secure the 1-0 victory and improve to 2-0 on the season.
