SALEM, Ore. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team lost its neutral-site non-conference match against St. Mary's 3-1 in Salem, Oregon on Thursday, September 17.
The Saints totaled six shots and four shots on goal, but two goals late in the first half put Saint Martin's behind for the remainder of the match. The loss dropped the Saints' record to 3-3-1 on the season.
How It Happened
- Saints goalkeeper Connor Leistiko made two saves within the first five minutes of the match, keeping the game level at 0-0.
- In the first half, the Saints saw two shots from Juan Diaz and one from Xander Koenig.
- In the 43rd minute, St. Mary's pulled ahead with a goal by Filipe Bastos. Shortly after, the Rattlers doubled their lead to 2-0 with an unassisted goal by Sebatian Poblete. Saint Martin's went into halftime trailing 2-0.
- Saint Martin's tallied two shots in the second half. In the 85th minute, Grant Deuel scored his third goal of the year, coming off an assist from Calvin Boyal to pull the Saints within one goal.
- Less than one minute later, Sean Borland scored for St. Mary's to put Saint Martin's back behind two goals, down 3-1. The scoreline would hold through the final whistle.
