SALEM, Ore. — The Saint Martin's Men's Soccer team picked up its fourth win of the season, defeating West Texas A&M 4-1 in Salem, Oregon on Saturday, September 19.
The Saints took a one-goal advantage midway through the first half, and saw two second-half goals propel the team to a 4-1 victory. The win improved the Saints' record to 4-3-1 on the season.
How It Happened
- The Saints held a 6-4 advantage in shots in the first half, and took a 1-0 advantage early in the match, as Xander Koenig found the back of the net in the seventh minute, off an assist from Kodyn Flynn.
- Connor Leistiko made his 200th career save in the 22nd minute. Shortly after, West Texas A&M leveled the game with an unassisted goal by Felix Casas. Leistiko would keep the Buffs off the board for the remainder of the match.
- Shortly after the equalizer, Saint Martin's recaptured the lead, as Juan Diaz scored off an assist from Kodyn Flynn in the 27th minute. The Saints took a 2-1 lead into the halftime intermission.
- In the second half, Juan Diaz elevated the Saints' lead to 3-1, scoring unassisted in the 52nd minute.
- The teams both recorded four shots in the second half, as Corbin Herrera's shot in the 84th minute put Saint Martin's ahead 4-1 and cemented the victory for the Saints.
