ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Saint Martin's Women's Soccer team lost its GNAC road matchup against Central Washington 2-0 in Ellensburg on Saturday, September 26.
The loss dropped the Saints' record to 1-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in GNAC play.
How It Happened
- The Saints totaled four shots in the first half, while the Wildcats totaled 16. In the sixth minute, Leia Tupper recorded a shot on goal, the first by either team in the match.
- Sam Escobar saved the first four shots on goal by CWU in the first half, before the Wildcats capitalized in the 42nd minute on a goal scored by Shannah Mellick, assisted by Alexa Stanfield. Despite a shot on goal late in the half by Madison Strother, Saint Martin's headed into halftime trailing 1-0.
- In the second half, Escobar recorded six saves to keep the Saints within striking distance. However, Central Washington scored on a penalty kick in the 85th minute, pulling ahead 2-0, a scoreline that would hold through the final whistle.
- Nora Melcher recorded a shot on goal in the second half for Saint Martin's.
