Ken Garland

The 2018 season will mark Garland's 10th season as head coach at Saint Martin's. Under Garland, the Saints have a record of 157-284.
 
In the last three years, Garland has coached 16 players to the All-GNAC team, with pitcher Mickey Walker being named the Freshman of the Year in 2016.
 
During the 2015 season, SMU saw five players on the All-GNAC team, including GNAC/SMU career home run leader Chandler Tracy. After the season, Tracy was named NCBWA All-West Region First Team and Carl Svanevik was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team.
 
During the 2014 season, SMU qualified for the GNAC Championships and Garland was named Coach of the Year, while Zack Larsen was named Freshman of the year and seven players were named All-Conference.

The 2013 squad placed five players on All-GNAC teams including Bobby Twedt who was named to the first team. Tracy was on the early watch list for the Tino Martinez Award given to the top Division II player in the fall.

Tracy highlighted the 2012 team as he earned NCBWA first team all-region honors while being named GNAC and West Region Freshman of the Year.

In 2011, Garland led the Saints to a second-place finish in the GNAC with a record of 21-11 and 25-22 overall. Outfielder Andrew Elke earned ABCA All-West Region Gold Glove honors that season. Elke was a two-time first team All-GNAC pick as well as a NCBWA Honorable Mention All-West Region selection in 2010.

In his first three seasons his teams were named GNAC Academic Team Champions (2009, 2010 and 2011).

Garland has coached multiple All-Region selections including Shane Schoeneberg (3B/OF), Jeff Brooks (RHP) and Travis Jones (1B).

Prior to his arrival at SMU he served as the head baseball coach and defensive coordinator for the football team at the University of Puget Sound (1996-2001) while coaching both baseball and football at Willamette and Linfield College.
 
A dual-sport athlete at Willamette University, Garland was the team captain and earned all-conference honors in both football (three times) and baseball. After completing his bachelor’s degree in both economics and physical education he attended Idaho State University where he earned his master’s degree in athletic administration and served as a graduate assistant coach in the football program. 

Garland and his wife, Cathy, have two sons: Chris and Matthew and three grandchildren, Chase, Justin and Adelei.
