Matt Acker

Matt Acker returns to Saint Martin's University for the 2011-2012 season. Coach Acker previously coached at SMU in the 2000 and 2001 seasons.  He returns after a 9 year stint as the Head Coach at Green River Community College. 

In his time at Green River he is the All-Time winningest Head Baseball Coach in school history.  He also lead his team to 5 post season appearances, finishing 3rd in the NWAACC Championships in 07 and 09.

Coach Acker is also going on his seventh season as the Head Coach for the Kitsap BlueJacket's of the West Coast League. During his time coaching the BlueJacket's he has had an opportunity to coach some of the best amateur collegiate talent from around the country. 

Acker is also the President of the Puget Sound Collegiate League. The PSCL was created by Acker to serve as a developmental league for small college and community college players.  The league has been a place for many SMU players to play.  It has provided a valuable opportunity for all these players to play against top tier talent from around the country.  Some of these players have also had a chance to be picked up by WCL teams.  The PSCL plays in Lacey at the Regional Athletic Complex. 

Coach Acker has had a number of players drafted by Major League teams.  Most noteworthy is David Patton with the Chicago Cubs. Patton made his MLB debut in 2009. He also has ex-players playing in the LA Angels, Arizona Diamond Backs, Tampa Bay Rays, San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles and independent ball systems currently. 

Acker has also been very active in summer baseball in the South Sound area. He started coaching Legion baseball in Lacey.  He has been the Head Coach for MVP Athletics (Olympia), Riptide (Puyallup) and Triple Play (Tacoma). Triple Play won the NABAF World Series in San Diego in 2003 while Acker was the Head Coach.

As a player, Acker played three years at Central Washington University and summer ball for the West Seattle Cruisers of the Pacific International League. At Central he pitched and played outfield. Matt was awarded the “Most Inspirational Player Award” during his senior season.   

Coach Acker and his wife Kira reside in Olympia, with their five year old son Kole and one year old son Kade.
