Petschl is beginning his second season at Saint Martin’s University as he came to SMU in 2014 after spending six seasons on the staff at The University of Montana under former head coach Wayne Tinkle.
“I am very honored to be working for Coach Pribble,” said Petschl. “His energy, enthusiasm, and vision for the Saint Martin’s basketball program is a great fit for this University and the players. Coach Pribble brings a lot of success with him to Saint Martin’s and I am excited to help him and this team start building a championship program on and off the floor.”
During his tenure at UM, Petschl worked his way up the coaching ladder spending four years as a student manager, one year as a Graduate Assistant and his last season as Director of Basketball Operations. While at UM, the Grizzlies went to three NCAA Tournaments and won three Big Sky Conference Championships.
Petschl’s duties for Montana included assisting the head and assistant coaches in day-to-day logistical operations, practices, video review, oversaw camps/clinics, external public relations, team travel, fundraisers, and team meals. He also scheduled practice and gym times, weekly schedules, and supervised student managers.
Petschl is an Edmonds, Wash., native and a graduate of Bishop Blanchet High School (Seattle, Wash.). He earned his undergraduate degree in History from The University of Montana and is finishing his Masters of Education. His parent Joe and Lisa resided in Edmonds. He has four younger siblings who are all in the Seattle area, Zach, Sam, Greg, and Jeff.
"Joe is a smart, hardworking young coach who I am very excited to work with,” said head coach Alex Pribble. “He has a great network in the local basketball community and has strong relationships with our current players. We are fortunate to have him on the staff this year."
