Mike Hayward

Hayward is entering his second season with SMU.

Hayward played college ball at the University of Washington where he was a power forward and Pac 10 Freshman of the Year in 1988, where he averaged 14 points per game. He started 111 of 113 games in his career. Hayward continued playing basketball overseas for seven years with teams in Finland, Australia, France, Austria, Korea and Switzerland.

"Basketball in my life has always been about timing," said Hayward, at the time of his arrival. "Once I saw that Alex was hired here, joining this program for me was a no brainer. We both share similar up-bringing in our high school basketball careers and for me this is a perfect fit to start my coaching career at the college level."

Hayward has his bachelors in Romance languages from the University of Washington and his MBA in International Business from European University – Montreux.

He is currently living in Bothell, Wash., with his wife, Laurie Wetzel, who was University of Washington's first NCAA volleyball All-American, and his two daughters Samantha and Natalie.

"Mike and I come from the same basketball community in northern California, and I've always followed his career as a player," said Pribble, at the time of his arrival. "His basketball resume speaks for itself, and we are very fortunate to have him on staff. I expect Mike to have a great impact on the individual development of our players."
