Julie Sullivan

Coach Sullivan begins her sixth year as head coach for the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field programs at Saint Martin’s.

Since 2006 the cross country and track and field accolades include a NCAA DII All-American in Track and Field, and NCAA DII outdoor track and field qualifiers. NCAA DII National Cross Country qualifier every year from 2006-2011, NCAA DII Regional Cross Country Champion and Cross Country Athlete of the Year, NCAA DII Regional Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year, GNAC Cross Country Champion and Cross Country Athlete of the Year, four GNAC Track and Field Champions, eleven All-Conference awards, four team and two individual Academic All-American awards, 32 Conference Academic awards, 61 school records, numerous All-Conference, All Conference academic, All American Academic Team, individual awards, and 143 personal records in the program. While many new school records and pr's have fallen every season.

Julie Sullivan was born in Birmingham in the U.K. Joining a running club at age 12, she was the equivalent of State Champion in the 1500m and second in cross country. Other highlights include Olympic Trials finalist in 1996, silver medalist in the England Indoor 1500m, and she represented the Great Britain track team twice in the European meets. Sullivan’s versatility as an athlete shows in achieving rankings in the 400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3,000m on the U.K. track lists and the 5-mile and 10-mile on U.K. road lists.

Coach Sullivan competed collegiately at Seattle Pacific University where she was an NCAA DII All-American in the 1500m. Back surgery prematurely ended her career as a top class competitor. She turned to competition in 2011 in the world Master's track championships in Sacramento. She continues to compete and is aiming for the 2012 European Master's championships.

Coach Sullivan and her husband, Richard, live in Olympia with Charlie and Jack, their two Beagles.

As Assistant Coach January 2004- August 31, 2006
2005: Guided Nate Carlson to 8th place in the 1500m at NCAA DII Outdoor championships in a then GNAC record of 3:50.18, still the school record.
2006: Coached Andrew Prentice to 3rd place at the NCAA DII Indoor championships in Boston.  Prentice was awarded the NCAA DII West Region athlete of the year at the banquet at the championships.  Prentice also won both the 800m and the mile at the conference championships and was awarded the athlete of the meet, and indoor athlete of the year for those performances.  Prentice set what was then a conference record in the 800m, and is still conference all-time top ten and is still the school record.
