Peterson is entering her third season after being hired February 2013. In her first two seasons with the Saints she has an 11-49 overall and 4-32 in league play record.

Under Peterson’s direction, Cymbree Decosta and Kristyn Ross were named honorable mention All-GNAC and five players were named GNAC All-Academic.

Peterson comes to SMU having built the Black Hills High School program in Tumwater from the ground up over the past 15 years starting the program in 1997. During her tenure she led Black Hills to 12 state tournament appearances including 10 top-eight finishes. A six-time Coach of the Year selection, Peterson guided her team to seven league titles and four district championships posting a career record of 213-93 (.689).

For nine years, Peterson worked with TourneySport/Club USA Volleyball traveling to Hawaii to participate in an elite National Volleyball Tournament that included players from all 50 states. She also served as Sports Ambassador and Head Volleyball Coach for People to People International traveling with the U17 National Women's Volleyball Team to the Friendship Games in the Netherlands in 2007 and the World Sports Festival in Vienna, Austria in 2009.

Peterson took her first Head Coaching job with Redmond High School in Redmond, Washington in 1990 and served as the head coach for two seasons before moving with her husband to Massachusetts, where he was completing his Medical Residency in Family Practice at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA. She also spent time coaching at the club level with Miami Valley Juniors Volleyball Club in Dayton, Ohio, and South Sound Ohana Volleyball Club here in Olympia, WA.

A four-year letter winner at the University of Washington (1981-84) she was a Co-Captain for the Huskies, and continues to hold the Single Match Record for Aces, with 8, set in 1984. Peterson graduated in 1986 with Bachelor's degrees in History and Political Science. After graduation she served as a graduate assistant at Washington (1985-86) and the University of Texas-Arlington (1986-87). Peterson went on to earn a Master's degree in Education in 2004 from the University of Washington, and worked for many years as an educator and coach, most recently at the Olympia Regional Learning Academy, as a teacher consultant with their HomeSchool Connect program.

She has been married to husband Jon T. Peterson since 1986, and has two kids, Brenna, age 24, a graduate student at SMU, and recent addition to our Saints Volleyball coaching staff, and Karl, age 21, currently studying Engineering at SMU as well.
