Liz Colón joins the Saint Martin’s (SMU) volleyball coaching staff after five seasons at North Thurston High School (NTHS). During her time at NTHS, Colón helped the varsity team advance to the playoffs each year, as well as to the state tournament twice. In her last season with the program, Colón earned a 8-2 winning record as the head junior varsity coach. Colón has also coached for local club teams in the area including Puget Sound Volleyball Academy and Evergreen Volleyball Club.
As a high school player, Colón was a three-time varsity letter athlete and earned the starting libero position as a sophomore. She was named twice to the All-Narrows League Volleyball Second Teams, the All-Area Volleyball Team as Libero, and Team MVP in her senior year. Colón led her team to State two out of three years, earning second and seventh place finishes. At State, she was named to the All-Tournament Team as a Defensive Specialist and also received the Sportsmanship award.
In 2015, Colón was recruited to play volleyball at Saint Martin’s University where she ranked 7th in the GNAC as the starting freshman libero and was named the Saints Volleyball “Defensive Player of the Year.” Her collegiate volleyball career was cut short due to injury, and she now enjoys playing city league volleyball and pickleball.
Colón received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2017 from Saint Martin’s University graduating summa cum laude and valedictorian. As a Benedictine Scholar, she was dedicated to leadership and community service activities on and off campus. Colón is currently working on earning an MBA with a concentration in healthcare from SMU. She previously worked as a project manager for Integrated Solutions Group and Physicians of Southwest Washington in Olympia.
