ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Saints' offense struggled to find a rhythm in a three set loss to Central Washington (25-9, 25-18, 25-12) on Saturday night.
Central Washington (18-6, 13-3) and Saint Martin's (8-16, 3-13) were tied at 4-4 in the first set after kills from
Rebecca Mitchell, Kamille Langford and Megan Vernoy started off the Saints. The Wildcats rattled off 11 straight points to take a 15-4 edge. Liz Larson and Langford recorded a kill each, before the Wildcats took the set 25-9.
Once again, Mitchell and Vernoy connected for kills in the early goings of the set, along with a Rachel Gondrezick kill before a 7-1 run gave the Wildcats the lead. The Saints closed the to three points multiple times by capitalizing on CWU's errors and kills from Vernoy and Courtney Misner. However; the Wildcats held off the Saints' offense in a 25-18 set victory.
Central Washington jumped out to an early 11-3 lead in the final set. The Saints' offense struggled to string together muiltple kills as the Wildcats cruised to the 25-12 match victory.
"Tonight we struggled to hold our standard level of play," said head coach
Jon Killingbeck. "We have to learn to be more consistent in our play."
Rebecca Mitchell led the Saints with six kills, followed by five from Vernoy and four by Langford. Langford managed to be a force at the net, recording four blocks.
Nicolette Nesbitt managed 16 assists while
Hannah Neumann's 14 digs led the team.
