CALDWELL, Idaho - A ninth-inning rally centered around Adam Eskil's double, fell short as the Saints fell 5-3 to College of Idaho at Wolfe Field.
SMU (1-4) trailing 5-1, down to their final out, found life when Steven Sordahl singled to third base and later scored, along with Alec Hagerman, on a Eskil that found grass in left center. However, the Yotes (6-8) forced a groundout to close the door on the comeback and clinched the 5-3 victory.
College of Idaho took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the third on a RBI single through the right side of the infield, scoring the runner on second.
The Saints tied up the game in the fifth after Adam Feist, who reached base on a pass ball then stole second, scored on a RBI single from catcher Cameron Mosier.
C of I broke open the score in the seventh inning driving in three unearned runs on a double and single. The Yotes plated an insurance run the bottom half of the eighth on a sacrifice bunt to take a 5-1 lead.
Alec Hagerman reached base after being hit by a pitch and advanced on a fly out to right center from Isaac Hegamin. Next batter Sordahl chased the Yotes' starter from the game with a single to third. Eskil picked up his second hit of the ball game on a double, driving in both runners but the final out rally fell short on a groundout to short.
