Saints Explode for 18 Runs In Doubleheader Split With CWU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Saints' offense explodes for 18 runs on 23 hits in the first game of a doubleheader before splitting with Central Washington University on Friday.
 
Game One
 
In a game that both offenses combined for 29 runs on 37 hits and seven errors, the Saints collected the most runs (18) and hits (23) since 2014.
 
The Saints (11-19, 8-14 GNAC) jumped out to an early three run lead in the first inning before the Wildcats (22-14, 16-10) tied the game in the top of the second. The Saints took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second before CWU tied the game with runs in the third and fourth.
 
The Saints rattled off 10 straight runs over the next three innings to take a 15-5 lead after six innings. Central Washington got within striking distance with a six run top of the seventh before the Saints closed out the game with one run in the seventh and two the eighth to claim the 18-11 victory.
 
Austin Feist and Adam Eskil provided the power behind the Saints offense, combining for nine hits, 11 RBIs and six runs.
 
Ryan Dorney (1-5) claimed his first victory of the season after throwing the first six innings, striking out four. Trevor Young recorded one out in the seventh before Zach Stevenson claimed the next two and Luke Hare pitched the final inning of the game.
 
Game Two
 
The Wildcats jumped out to an early five run lead in the first two innings before Zach Raczok scored Eskil on a bases-loaded fielder's choice in the bottom of the second.
 
After CWU scored one run in the third and two in the fourth, Eskil struck again with a two-run home run to right field to cut the score to 8-3 after five innings.
 
Central Washington closed out the victory with a four run sixth inning to claim the split in the first doubleheader of the weekend.
 
The Saints threw five pitchers in the seven innings with Mickey Walker (2-5) picking up the loss after starting game.
