Box Score 1 LACEY, Wash. - The Saints fell behind early and could not overcome the deficit in the 8-3 decision against Western Oregon before having the second game halted and cancelled due to rain and field conditions.
Western Oregon (26-13, 25-10 GNAC) scored four runs in the first inning, fueled by two RBI singles and a RBI double to gain the early advantage.
WOU scored a run in the third inning on a wild pitch and capped off the six unanswered runs with a solo home run in the fifth inning.
The Saints (16-27, 13-22) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after
Alec Hagerman's ground out drove home
Micah McNicoll, cutting the score to 6-1.
The Wolves added their final two runs in the sixth inning on a RBI double and RBI single, stretching their lead to 8-1.
Saint Martin's converted a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from
Kahi Hirano, that plated
Isaac Hegamin. The Saints mounted a small ninth inning rally, when a bases loaded walk, drove in one before ultimately falling 8-3.
Jacob Phipps (0-1) got the start for the Saints, going the first five innings, allowing six runs on nine hits.
Patrick Hoeper pitched one inning of relief before
Zach Stevenson threw the final three shut out innings.
The second game of the doubleheader made it into the top of the fifth with one out, Western Oregon leading 5-0; however, with rain and unplayable conditions, the game was halted. Since the game did not complete five innings, it was ultimately cancelled outright.
Up Next: The Saints stay at home for a four-game series against Concordia University to conclude the 2017 season. The series begins Friday at 1 p.m. before finishing up on Saturday for Senior Day.
