LACEY, Wash. - Led by a goal and assist from the freshman
Edgar Iniguez, Saint Martin's Men's Soccer toppled Corban University 3-0 in their first exhibition match of the 2017 preseason.
Iniguez did not wait long to make his first mark on Saint Martin's Soccer, after being subbed in the 30th minute, Iniguez connected on shot from 15 yards out to give SMU a 1-0 lead. Iniguez provided the only goal in the first half for either side as the Saints took a 1-0 after the first 45 minutes.
Iniguez, in the 50th minute, found
Brandon Madsen right in the middle of the box, who's shot reached the back of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. The final blow came in the 74th minute when
Collin LaBranche's header from 10 yards out found net and pushing the score to the eventual final mark of 3-0.
The Saints out shot the Warriors 15-5, including 10-1 in the second half, with 8-2 landing on target, in favor of the Saints. Corban led the saves catergory with five compared to the Saints' two. SMU took seven corners while Corban received four attempts.
Iniguez led all players with six shots, including two on goal. McKray John and Madsen combined for seven shots and five on goal.
Alexis Lopez and LaBranche each took one shot.
Griffin Small played the first half, allowing no goals and managed two saves.
Dylan Shaw finished out the second half with a clean sheet.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday, August 22, with an exhibition against Northwest Christian University at 5:15 p.m. Live stats will be available at smusaints.com.
