Saints' Soccer Defeated At Home Against Cal Baptist

LACEY, Wash. - After holding off a relentless attack from the Lancers, Saint Martin's defense gave way late in the second as Cal Baptist won the match 5-0.

In the first half, the Saints (0-5) fought off six shots by the Lancers (2-3) in the first 18 minutes of the match. A turnover by the Saints in the 21st minute, on their end of the field, led to CBU's first goal of the game. The Saints attempted to equalize the match on a corner kick from Madison Walker and a shot by Shea McKnight in the first half; however, the match remained 1-0.

SMU's defense stood strong at the start of the second half, withstanding six Lancers' shots and one corner. At the 77th minute mark, Cal Baptist stretched their lead to 2-0 after Camille Ramirez's shot from the left side of the box, found its' way over Sara Christensen's arm in the middle of the net. In the final 10 minutes, the Lancers went on to score three more times, including second goals of the match for Brooke Ligtenberg and Miranda Martinez. 

The Saints were out shot 22-to-3 including 7-to-0 in shots on goal. The Saints recorded the only two saves of the match, both coming in the first half. Kylee Sarchett, Lauren Allison and McKnight each tallied one shot. 

Sara Christensen got the start at keeper for the Saints, going all 90 minutes and making two saves on 22 shots faced.

The Saints end non-conference with their match against Cal Baptist and start the GNAC season with a road match against Seattle Pacific on September 21 at 4:30 p.m.
