MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Saints and Wolves went toe-to-toe for 70 minutes, with neither side finding an edge until Western Oregon managed to slip one past for a 1-0 win.
The Saints (5-8-0, 1-6-0) looked to have taken the lead midway through the second half, when a header by
Kiersten Madsen snuck past the keeper. However, the goal was called off and gave the Wolves (5-6-2, 3-4-1) a second life. Western Oregon made the most of it and squeeze home a goal in the 70th minute to win 1-0.
The first half proved to be a quiet one, with neither side finding any quality chances on the offensive side. The Saints collected two shots, first from
Jolene Kvinsland in the 12th minute and
Daeh Lindquist in the 26th minute.
Ali Koehler faced three shots, and three corners, but Western Oregon was unable to land any on target.
In the second half, the Saints came out with more offensive pressure, launching shots from
Kiersten Madsen. Madsen logged the first shot on goal in the match for either side, resulting in a save by the Wolves' keeper in the 53rd minute. Both sides traded shot attempts, until the Wolves finally broke the stalemate with a goal in the 71st minute. A give and go pass from Dacia Alexander to Kaili Brundage, gave her angle to the left side of the net and a lead. The Saints managed to fire off multiple attempts in the closing minutes to equalize; however, the Wolves were able to fend off the attack and escape with the three points.
Madsen led the team with four shots, followed by LeAnn Phankhone with two. Five different Saints also managed to collect one shot. Koehler faced 11 shots in the match, making one save and allowing the one goal.
