MONMOUTH, Ore. – Western Oregon takes both ends of the doubleheader, 12-4 and 6-5, winning the second game on a walk-off single, despite big days at the plate by
Adam Eskil and
Steven Sordahl.
Eskil finished the day with four RBIs and his first home run of the season while Sordahl managed four hits in the doubleheader. Western Oregon used a 12-0 and 5-0 run to secure the two victories.
Western Oregon (17-15, 17-12) jumped on the Saints (8-30, 7-23) early in the opening game, scoring three runs in the second on a triple and home run. The Wolves added one run in the third before a bases-loaded double in the fourth managed to break open the game.
The Wolves drove in one more run in the fourth before a four run inning in the sixth to cap off their 12-0 run to open the game. The Saints managed to get on the board in the eighth inning, starting with an RBI single by
Adam Eskil.
Benjamin Wadowski added a run on a bases loaded walk before
Bryant Nakagawa was hit by a pitch, forcing in another run.
Ryan Colvin walked to score the fourth and final run of the game as SMU fell 12-4.
Clark Streby (4-4) got the start on the mound, going four innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits before
Zach Robinson pitched the next three in relief. Wadowski was called in to throw the final inning.
In the second game of the doubleheader, Eskil led-off with a bang, hitting his first home run of the year, a two run shot to right field. Western Oregon managed to tie the game in the second inning with a two RBI single before RBI singles in the third put WOU on top 4-2. The Wolves added another run in the fourth on a wild pitch to extend their lead to 5-2.
The Saints batted back in the fifth inning after two quick outs.

Colton Peha walked, setting up
Austin Feist for a two RBI double to left field. Eskil struck again, this time with a RBI single to center field to tie the game at 5-5.
However, the Wolves loaded the bases in the bottom of seventh, and with one out, WOU walked-off the game with a RBI single through the left side.
Tanner Inouye got the start, going 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits before
Robbie Shineman recorded the final out in the fourth.
Matthew Dunaway (0-4) went 2.0 plus innings with
Ryan Dorney recording one out.
"We came out a little flat in game one today and put ourselves in a tough situation to try and fight back," said head coach
Kelly Gau. "Our guys did a great job flushing the first game to score early in game two, adn then fight back from a hole to give us a chance. We were a hit shy from opening it up with a couple opportunities to do so. This team continues to compete in each game we are encouraged they'll be able to bounce back tomorrow".
The Saints wrap up their four game series against Western Oregon tomorrow with a doubleheader starting at noon.
