NAMPA, Idaho –
Ryne Oshiro capped off his incredible series, where he hit .625 with three home runs and six RBIs, along with
Austin Feist's solo home run and
Tanner Inouye complete game, the Saints split the road series with Northwest Nazarene 5-2 and 5-3 results on Friday.
Oshiro tied the game in the fifth inning of the first doubleheader with a solo home run before Feist put SMU on top with his own blast in the sixth. The Saints scored insurance runs in the eighth and ninth while Inouye craved through the Nighthawks' lineup. In the second game, Feist connected for his second home run of the day; however, the Nighthawks rattled five straight runs to secure the split.
Feist got the Saints (6-26, 5-19) on the board right away, driving in
Colton Peha with a sac fly. Northwest Nazarene (13-21, 10-14) quickly struck back, scoring two runs in the third inning to regain the 2-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, with nobody on and two outs, Oshiro hit his third home run of the season and his career to tie the game. Next inning, Feist hit his team-leading fourth home run of the year, giving Saint Martin's back the lead.
Benjamin Wadowski and
Steven Sordahl added insurance runs in the eighth and ninth inning with RBI groundouts and sac flies respectively.
Tanner Inouye finished off his complete game in the ninth with a strike out, leaving a runner on third.
Inouye (2-2) went the distance for the first time in his career, allowing the two runs, one earned on six hits, along with five walks and tied his season-high in strike outs with seven.
Feist also scored the first runs of the second game, bringing home Peha on a sac fly. The Nighthawks responded in the bottom half of the first with three runs, highlighted by a triple scoring two. NNU added two more runs in the second inning on a RBI single to stretched their lead to 5-1.
In the fourth inning,
Micah McNicoll began to chip away at the lead with a RBI single to center field, scoring
Cameron Mosier. In their final inning, the Saints recorded two quick outs before Oshiro singled through the right side. Pinch hitter
Dakota Hill singled to set up
Steven Sordahl who doubled down the right field line, scoring Oshiro. Feist was hit by a pitch to put the tying run in scoring position and the bases loaded but the Nighthawks escaped with a fly out.
Matthew Dunaway (0-3) got the start, going two innings, allowing five runs on four hits before
Garrison Ritter took over. Ritter tossed three shutout innings with
Robbie Shineman throwing the final clean inning.
