PORTLAND, Ore. – The Saints' offense is starting to find a rhythm over the last couple of matches; however, despite the upturn, the Saints continue to look for their first win after a three set loss to Concordia.
In the opening set, the Saints and the Cavaliers were neck and neck, with Concordia holding a 13-12 lead. The set was put out of reach after the Cavaliers went on a 10-0 run to secure the result 25-14.
Concordia controlled the early goings of the second set, and eventually stretched their lead to 17-11. The Saints began to click on the offensive end, and trimmed the lead to only 19-18. However, the Saints were never able to close the gap more and eventually fell 25-21.
In the closing set, Saint Martin's connected on 17 kills and hit .297 as a team. The momentum swung back and forth between the two sides, with the score being tied 13 different times. The final tie came after
Mackenzie Carter picked up her 16th kill of the match, knotting the score at 23-23. Looking to force a fourth set, the Saints came up short, allowing the next two rallies to go the way of the Cavaliers, ending the match.
Carter led the way on the offensive end with 16 kills, along with her nine digs, nearly marking another double-double for the junior.
Emily Gooding was the only other Saint in double-figures in kills with 11.
Alyssa Bartlett compiled another strong performance, ending with 31 assists, nine digs, five kills, and two blocks.
Kylie Alos led the back row with 17 digs.
