LACEY, Wash. - In a day of career firsts for
Melissa Alvarado, after making her first start, the sophomore scored her first career goals to lead the Saints in a 2-0 shutout over Simon Fraser Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
It did not take long for the Saints to obtain a lead, with the first goal scored early in the 9th minute. Alvarado collected a pass from
Maddie Wolff, beat a SFU defender, then rifled the ball past the keeper for her first career goal. Saint Martin's continued their lead on a through ball from
Rose Robbins to Alvarado in the 14th minute, giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the second half.
Saints looked to put the final dagger in the second half, with shot attempts from four different SMU players to widen the lead even more.
Maddie Wolff and
Shea McKnight each accounted for two of those shots; however, were unable to find their mark.
Six different SMU players accounted for 14 shots, four of those coming from
Jolene Kvinsland and two apiece from
Shea McKnight and
Maddie Wolff.
Sara Christensen played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Saints, made two saves, and collected her first clean sheet of 2019. Saint Martin's defense posted the shutout on 13 shots faced.
