Saints' Baseball Falls To Dixie State In Season Opener - It took the Saints 23 outs to record their first hit, with Isaac Hegamin breaking up Dixie State's attempt at a no-hitter with a single in the eighth inning. Dixie State jumped on the Saints in the early goings to knock off SMU 4-1 in the season opener.

Saint Martin's had five different baserunners reach in the game before their first hit, with two coming on walks, an error, a dropped third strike and a hit-batsman. Hegamin singled through the left side to end the no-hitter bid with two outs in the eighth, and scored Kahi Hirano to cut the score to 4-1. The Trailblazers managed to close out the ninth and used runs in the first, fifth and sixth to earn the victory.

Late Innings Rally Falls Short For Saints In California - After falling behind by five runs in the third inning, the Saints chipped away at the lead with three runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. With the tying run on-base, the game ended with a rare pick-off as CSU San Bernardino escaped with a 7-6 victory over Saint Martin's.

A five run third inning padded the Coyotes pitching staff as they held the Saints' offense in check for the first five innings. Aaron Renaud got SMU on the board with an RBI single, followed by a Micah McNicoll bases-loaded walk and Cody Chavis' sac-fly in the sixth. CSUSB responded with two insurances run in the bottom of the sixth, which came in handy for the end of the game. Renaud drove in another run on a groundout, before Colton Peha singled and scored two more runs to pull SMU within one. Tying run on-base, and the go-ahead run at the plate, McNicoll never got a chance to do damage, as Peha was picked off and the game was over.

Saints Split With Dixie State Behind Strong Pitching Efforts - Tanner Inouye and Ryan Dorney combined to toss a pitching gem against Dixie State in the opener of the doubleheader as the Saints split the pair on the road, 5-3 and 10-5.

Inouye (1-0) went the first 5.2 innings, allowing all three runs; however, none were earned, while punching out three batters. Dorney came in to pick up the rare 10-out save, allowing only two hits and striking out two Trailblazers. Micah McNicoll provided five hits in the two games, and Colton Peha slugged the first home run of the season for SMU.

Tanner Inouye Named GNAC Pitcher of the Week - Tanner Inouye started the 2019 season off with a bang, throwing 5.2 innings, picking up the win, and also his first GNAC Pitcher of the Week award this season. Inouye went 5.2 innings against Dixie State on Sunday, earning the first win of the year for the Saints. During the start, Inouye did allow three runs on the board; however, all the runs were unearned. He punched out three Trailblazers and left five runners on base, including working out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning. The award marks the first of the season for Inouye and his second in his career.

Saints Picked Sixth In Preseason Poll - Led by All-Conference outfielder Austin Feist and shortstop Ryne Oshiro, along with a veteran pitching staff, the Saints' baseball team was selected sixth in the GNAC Preseason Poll on Wednesday. The Saints enter the season after an 11-37 campaign last year; however, despite the record, proved to show many bright spots for the future.

Season Preview - Feist, named to the first team All-Conference, sits in the middle of the lineup with a .320 batting average, .390 on-base percentage, and .511 slugging percentage. The senior led the team last year in home runs (6), RBI (30), total bases (91), and OPS (.901).

Looking to back up his stellar freshman season, Oshiro provides pop up the middle of the infield with his team leading .328 batting average. Along with the batting average, Oshiro collected 57 hits, tied for the team lead, three home runs, and 19 RBIs. The freshman was selected as a second team All-Conference shortstop.

Some other notable returners in the offense include outfielder Colton Peha and infielder Micah NcNicoll. Peha hit for a .258 average, and McNicoll finished with a .234 mark, while both hit two home runs and 16 RBIs.

On the pitching side, the Saints return nine pitchers, including six seniors. Mickey Walker, Ryan Dorney, Luke Hare, Clark Streby, Robbie Shineman, and Aaron Shoup add veteran leadership to the staff. Streby led the team in wins (4), strikeouts (50), innings pitched (56.2) and games started (11). The Saints will also look to junior Tanner Inouye after his All-Conference season. In nine starts, Inouye accomplished three quality starts, including a complete game, one run, seven strikeout gem against Northwest Nazarene.
