Strong Pitching and Timely Hitting Leads Saints In Doubleheader Split - After the first inning of the first game, where the Saints allowed four runs, SMU silenced the College of Idaho bats. Over the next 17 innings, College of Idaho only managed to put three runs up on the board, and the Saints scored three runs in the ninth of the second game to split the doubleheader 3-5 and 5-2.
GNAC Pitcher of the Week
Tanner Inouye delivered six strong innings; however, it was first inning that resulted in four runs on the board. SMU's offense chipped away at the deficit but was never able to recover as College of Idaho snatched up the 5-3 victory. In the second bill of the doubleheader,
Aaron Shoup pitched six innings, punching out six, and was followed by
Mickey Walker, who threw three lights out innings and earned the victory.
Ryne Oshiro collected four hits in the lead-off spot for four RBIs on the day. In both games combined, the Saints' 1-4 in the lineups grabbed 10 of the Saints' 17 hits.
Benjamin Wadowski's Pitching Gem Lifts Saints In Doubleheader Split - After the Saints' late innings rally fell short in the first game,
Dakota Hill provided all three runs of support to fuel
Benjamin Wadowski as the lefty tossed 7.1 innings of two run baseball to split the doubleheader, 3-6 and 3-2, against College of Idaho.
For the second straight day, the Saints dropped the front end of the doubleheader to Yotes, before pulling through in the second half to force a split.
Luke Hare provided two shutout innings of relief in the first game, but the offense was unable to close the 6-1 deficit. Hill provided all the runs in the second game, including the eventual winning run with a double to center in the ninth inning, and
Ryan Dorney (1-0) closed out the game, earning his first win of the season.
Micah McNicoll Delivers At The Plate In Series Finale - In the fifth and final tilt between the Saints and the Yotes,
Micah McNicoll delivered a four hit game, highlighted by his two-run home, as the Saints crushed their way to an 11-5 victory.
Saint Martin's quickly struck, opening the game with four runs in the first frame, coming on four RBI singles. McNicoll's slam came in the second to put SMU up 6-1. College of Idaho managed to cut the score to 6-5 after the third inning; however, Saint Martin's poured on five more runs in the next three innings to cruise to the victory. The bullpen for the Saints pitched six shutout innings, allowing only three hits and struck out six Yotes to secure the series deciding game.
Micah McNicoll named GNAC Hitter of the Week -
Micah McNicoll's bat refused to cool off in the cold Idaho weather, and instead heated up for seven hits, highlighted by a two-run home run, and four RBIs, as he was named the GNAC Hitter of the Week. McNicoll began the weekend with a hit and a walk in the opening game of the five game series with College of Idaho. In the second game, he reached base on a walk and later scored in the inning. After sitting out the third game, he returned to the lineup with force. The junior went 2-for-4, both hits doubles, with two runs scored to help the Saints to a 3-2 victory. In the series finale, McNicoll put it all together, going 4-for-5, capped-off by his two-run home run in the second inning. He finished the game with four RBIs and two more runs scored.
Tanner Inouye Named GNAC Pitcher of the Week -
Tanner Inouye started the 2019 season off with a bang, throwing 5.2 innings, picking up the win, and also his first GNAC Pitcher of the Week award this season. Inouye went 5.2 innings against Dixie State on Sunday, earning the first win of the year for the Saints. During the start, Inouye did allow three runs on the board; however, all the runs were unearned. He punched out three Trailblazers and left five runners on base, including working out of a bases loaded jam in the fourth inning. The award marks the first of the season for Inouye and his second in his career.
Three Strikes You're Out – The Saints' pitching staff has turned into the best strike out rotation in the GNAC. In 75 innings pitched, Saint Martin's has punched out an equal 75 batters, led by the GNAC leaders
Aaron Shoup (14) and
Tanner Inouye (12).
Lock Down Bullpen – Over the course of the season, one major weapon have been the arms at the back end of the bullpen.
Ryan Dorney and
Luke Hare has posted perfect 0.00 ERAs over a combined 10 innings.
Robbie Shineman and
Garrison Ritter have had strong outings as well, compiling 2.08 and 2.74 ERAs respectively.
Bats In The Infield – Making up a majority of the Saints' at-bats in the infield has been
Aaron Renaud,
Isaac Hegamin,
Ryne Oshiro, and
Micah McNicoll. The four have combined for an impressive .370 batting average, with 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored, giving SMU one of the top offensive infields in the GNAC.
Saints Picked Sixth In Preseason Poll - Led by All-Conference outfielder
Austin Feist and shortstop
Ryne Oshiro, along with a veteran pitching staff, the Saints' baseball team was selected sixth in the GNAC Preseason Poll on Wednesday. The Saints enter the season after an 11-37 campaign last year; however, despite the record, proved to show many bright spots for the future.
Season Preview - Feist, named to the first team All-Conference, sits in the middle of the lineup with a .320 batting average, .390 on-base percentage, and .511 slugging percentage. The senior led the team last year in home runs (6), RBI (30), total bases (91), and OPS (.901).
Looking to back up his stellar freshman season, Oshiro provides pop up the middle of the infield with his team leading .328 batting average. Along with the batting average, Oshiro collected 57 hits, tied for the team lead, three home runs, and 19 RBIs. The freshman was selected as a second team All-Conference shortstop.
Some other notable returners in the offense include outfielder
Colton Peha and infielder Micah NcNicoll. Peha hit for a .258 average, and McNicoll finished with a .234 mark, while both hit two home runs and 16 RBIs.
On the pitching side, the Saints return nine pitchers, including six seniors.

Aaron Shoup add veteran leadership to the staff. Streby led the team in wins (4), strikeouts (50), innings pitched (56.2) and games started (11). The Saints will also look to junior
Tanner Inouye after his All-Conference season. In nine starts, Inouye accomplished three quality starts, including a complete game, one run, seven strikeout gem against Northwest Nazarene.
