LACEY, Wash. – After playing the first three innings back on April 14, the game between Saint Martin's and Central Washington was called due to lack of light. The two teams resumed and completed the game on Monday, with the Wildcats taking the decision 4-0.
Two errors by the Saints that resulted in runs on the board for Central Washington, along with scattered hits throughout the game by the Saints' offense, played a key factor in the game.
Micah McNicoll finished with two hits, while
Ryne Oshiro,
Aaron Renaud, and
Cody Chavis each added a hit of their own.
Luke Hare and
Robbie Shineman combined to only allow one earned run over six innings of relief.
Central Washington led off the game with two runs in the opening frame, with one coming on a RBI single, and another on a sac fly to left center. The Saints left two runners on in the first, and one in the third, before the game was called due to lack of daylight.
Fast forward two weeks later, and the Wildcats and the Saints went scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning. In the sixth, an error by the Saints allowed the third run of the game to score. The Wildcats added another insurance run in the seventh to help seal the victory.
Mickey Walker (2-3) got the start, going one inning but allowed two runs, one earned. Hare pitched the next two scoreless innings before the delay. Shineman was called on to resume the game and the lefty went all four innings, giving up the two runs, but one earned.
The Saints host Western Oregon for the final four game series of the regular season. Currently, the Saints sit with a two game lead for the final GNAC Championships spot over Concordia with just four games left. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com
