Lacey, Wash – In a season filled with highs and lows, the Saint's received their best news to end the regular season since 2014 despite a two loss Friday. With Central Washington and Concordia both falling on Friday, Saint Martin's earned the fourth and final spot in the 2019 GNAC Championships in Portland, Oregon.
Western Oregon managed to spoil the party in the terms of wins on the day, knocking off the Saints 18-0 in the opener, then 6-0 in the second billing. The Saints' defense struggled to come up with needed outs, while the offense was unable to string together hits and create momentum at the plate.
The Saints fell behind early and were not able to get any offense going after the Wolves grabbed big innings in the second and seventh in which they scored six and nine en route to an 18-0 loss.
Game two began in similar style with the Wolves jumping on the scoreboard first with three runs in the second inning.
They would go on to add another in the third and two more in the fourth making it a 6-0 ballgame, the eventual final score.
While the Saints were unable to break through on offense, they will have time to figure things out and get ready for postseason baseball.
The Saints and the Wolves wrap up the regular season on Saturday with another doubleheader, starting at noon. Saint Martin's will celebrate their ten seniors careers between games three and four. Stats and video will be available at smusaints.com
