ELLENSBURG, Wash. – At the first meet of the 2019 season, new faces to the squad led the charge for the Saints, with Saint Martin's finishing fourth and fifth respectively in the men's and women's races.

On the men's side of the action, sophomore
Andrew Oslin once again found himself at the head of the Saints' pack. Oslin placed 17th overall with his time of 19:46.10 minutes.
Nicholas Sarysz in his first collegiate race placed 20th overall with a time of 20:00.78. Following him was
Marcus Rice at 20:19.76 and 27th overall.
Rudu Wani and
Zach Franco rounded out the scoring for the Saints with their finishes of 41st and 47th respectively. Wani completed the race in 21:06.86, while Franco marked a time of 21:36.09.
Elaina Hansen did not wait long to make an impact for the Saints, placing first on the team in the women's race. Hansen's time of 16:21.49 was good enough for a 30th place finish overall.
Bethany Forward was second best on the team and 39th overall with her time of 17:31.13. Finishing back-to-back was
Naomi Hartley and
Kendyl Otter, who separated by only four seconds with their times of 17:58.50 and 18:02.84 respectively. Closing out the scoring for SMU was Keirla Yates and her mark of 18:41.26.
"Great debut for our Saints," said head coach
Jim Brewer. "Andrew (Oslin) ran an outstanding race and managed to mix it up within the conference. He was patient and it paid off. Freshman Nick Sarsyz was our number two guy and looked good, especially for his first official college meet.
Elaina Hansen and
Bethany Forward both had outstanding races. I am truly proud of all our Saints and how they competed today. Our hard work is already paying off."
