LACEY, Wash. – Alaska dominated the opening two sets, and were able to withstand the last minute push by Saint Martin's to spoil the Saints' home opener in straight sets, 25-14, 25-14, 25-20.
The Nanooks (4-5, 1-0) and the Saints (0-10, 0-1) battled it out evenly through the opening of the first set. However, the Nanooks closed out the set on a 11-2 run to take it 25-14.
The momentum carried over into the second set for the Nanooks, where they led all the throughout. Saint Martin's was unable to find an offensive groove and fell 25-14.
Kiana Pel checked in at libero for the Saints at the start of the third set, and she went on collect 13 digs. Behind her play, and
Britney Duvall's, the Saints managed to find some life but in the end, came up short 25-20.
Saint Martin's collected 27 kills on 17 errors, along with 25 assists, four blocks, and one ace.
Alyssa Bartlett led with 18 assists, and added 10 digs.
Gracie Brenner managed seven kills, while
Ililani Kamaka recorded six.
