LACEY, Wash. – Hawaii Pacific proved to have the Saints' number all match, cruising to a 5-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Hawaii Pacific quickly jumped on the board, scoring a goal exactly eight minutes into the match. The Sharks managed to strike again in the 20th minute and carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.
The pressure continued in the second half for Hawaii Pacific, as they were able to secure the win with three second half goals.
"Credit to Hawaii Pacific for a well played game today," said head coach
Heather Cato. "That said, we didn't help ourselves because we played uninspired soccer this afternoon. We couldn't find a rhythm, and struggled to connect as a unit today. However, we have to learn from this, and take those lessons into conference play next weekend. We have no other choice but to step up and respond."
Saint Martin's was outshot 23 to 4, with Hawaii Pacific taking 17 shots on target.
Ali Campigotto, who got the start at keeper, recorded 11 saves, marking a season high for SMU.
The Saints return to action next Saturday, beginning conference action against Seattle Pacific at 3:00 p.m. Live stats and video of the match will be available on smusaints.com.
