SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – A late game goal by
Shea McKnight was not enough as the Saints fell to Academy of Art on the road 3-1.
The Saints nearly went into the half with a tied match; however, Academy of Art managed to squeak in a goal with just 11 seconds left. Art U continued to apply pressure in the second half, and managed to open up more breathing room with two second half goals. McKnight and the Saints were able to get on the board in the 82nd minute, with McKnight's first goal of the season; however, the match ended with a 3-1 result.
Jessica Moskowitz, who picked up the equalizing goal in the Saints' first match of the year, was credited with an assist, along with
Kiersten Madsen.
"We created several very good opportunities going forward," said head coach
Heather Cato. However, we're missing the final ball or just the finish on goal. We played well in moments, but we are looking for that extra effort from everyone for the entire game. Now we need to bounce back and fix the things we can control because we have another game tomorrow."
The Saints recorded eight shots in the match, with four coming on target. New faces like
Kendall Kemp,
Maddie Haggard, and
Justine Pauly all connected with shots on goal.
Sophie Mendoza played all 90 minutes in goal for the Saints, recording three saves, allowing three goals, while facing 10 shots.
