LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's could not find an answer to silence Tyler Green and Montana State Billings, as the Yellowjackets knocked down 21 3-pointers in the 96-to-67 victory.
Saint Martin's (4-13, 2-6 GNAC) cut the early Montana State Billings (8-7, 3-4) lead down to seven in the first half, but a last minute offensive burst, carried over into the second half. The Yellowjackets outpaced the Saints in the second half behind the efforts of Green, who tied a GNAC record for most 3-pointers in a game with 12.
Demonte Malloy and
John Moore combined for 29 points and nine rebounds, while
CJ Jennings added 10 points off the bench. However, the Saints struggled to find consistent offense and was outrebounded by 11 on the glass.
MSU Billings jumped out to an early lead to open up the first half, taking a 14-4 lead. The Yellowjackets extended their lead over the next minutes, with sharpshooting from beyond the arc. An eight-point run brought the Saints back within single digits; however, this proved to be difficult to hold for the rest of the period, with the half ending 43-30.
Baskets continued to fall for MSU Billings, opening up the second half with eight consecutive points. Down the stretch with six minutes to play, the Saints went on a quick 10-point run to cut the score. However, the lead was too deep for a comeback. MSUB outshot the Saints 13-10 in the final minutes to take the game 96-67.
All Saints put points on the board, with
Demonte Malloy leading the way with 15 points, while adding five rebounds.
John Moore followed with 14 points and recorded four boards.
Marky Adams and
CJ Jennings combined for 16 points and eight rebounds.
Logan Rooney led in rebounds with six while adding eight points.
Saint Martin's as a team shot 27-for-75 (36 percent) from the floor, 7-for-31 (22.6 percent) from beyond the arc, and 6-for-9 (66.7 percent) at the line. The Saints collected 34 rebounds, with nine assists on seven turnovers, along with ten steals, and one block.
