Comeback Attempt For Saints Spoiled By Simon Fraser - Trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, Saint Martin's cut the score to make it a four-point game with minutes left to play. The comeback attempt was spoiled by sharp-shooting from Simon Fraser to end the game 80-69 on Thursday night.
Demonte Malloy led the Saints with 19 points, including nine rebounds. In just 18 minutes of action for
Alex Schumacher, the guard scored 16 points, while
CJ Jennings followed with 14 points while adding four rebounds and two steals. In the final minutes of the second half, the Saints used an 11-2 run to pull within four. However, Simon Fraser connected on a couple clutch baskets, and iced the game at the free throw line to secure the road victory.
Saints' Come Up Short In Loss To Western Washington - The Saints played most of the game without their leading scorer
Demonte Malloy, who suffered an injury just five minutes into the game. Despite the loss, Saint Martin's made a run at the game, coming up just short of upsetting Western Washington 85-78 on Saturday night.
Four different Saints reached double-digits in scoring, including
Alex Clinton, who dropped 14 points in just 24 minutes of action.
Alex Schumacher ended the night with 17 points, four rebounds, along with
Marky Adams' 13 points, and
CJ Jennings' 16. The Saints connected on multiple 3-pointers down the stretch, while Western Washington struggled to ice the game at the line. The Vikings led by as many as 15 with three minutes to go, but the Saints cut the score down to five in the final possessions.
Malloy Doing It All – The transfer has wasted no time making an impact for the Saints, ranking 11th in the GNAC in scoring (14.9 ppg), and eighth in rebounding (6.6 rpg).
Double-Double Threat – Anchoring the middle for the Saints is
Marky Adams. In 19 games, Adams has eight double-double. He enters the week leading the GNAC in rebounding at 8.9 boards per game, in blocks at 1.8 per game, and leads in field goal percentage at 65.9 percent.
Lighting Up The Scoreboard – The Saints' 99 points in the win over Capilano in November, it was the most in a game without overtime since Dec. 9, 2017 when SMU scored 100 against Quest.
Picking Your Pocket –
Alex Schumacher is not only a threat on the offensive end of the floor, but also on the defensive. The guard leads in steals with 26 steals, and is currently 11th in the GNAC at 1.4 steals per game.
Lights Out From Downtown –
CJ Jennings has established himself as a premier threat from outside the arc. So far on the year, the junior is averaging 2.5 3-pointers a game, one of only four players in the GNAC to reach that mark.
Controlling the Glass – The Saints have proven to be a force on the glass in 2019-20, entering the week second in the conference with nearly 38 rebounds per game.
Fresh Look For The Saints – 2019-20 brings on a whole new team for the Saints, from the top to the bottom. Head coach
Aaron Landon was hired from South Puget Sound Community College to lead SMU in May, 2019. After losing eight seniors, Landon and company brought in 10 new players, including seven freshman.
Meet Head Coach Aaron Landon - Landon comes to Saint Martin's after six seasons as the head coach at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, Washington. At SPSCC, Landon transformed a program that finished 2-22 in his first season into a three-time NWAC West Region champion.

During this four year span SPSCC went 49-7 in the West Region and 93-26 overall in the NWAC. South Puget Sound reached the postseason each of the last four seasons, earning three number one seeds and two trips to the NWAC Quarterfinals. Landon was voted NWAC West Region Coach of the Year in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In addition to coaching, Landon was an Academic Advisor at taught classes at SPSCC. Landon departs SPSCC as the program all-time wins leader with 102 wins.
Starting Off Strong – In preseason, the Saints played two Division-I teams on the road, but that did not affect the freshman
Cole Alton and
Alex Schumacher. Alton light up Seattle U, scoring 21 points, and grabbing eight rebounds in 28 minutes of action. Schumacher proved to be difficult for Cal as the guard scored 21 points in only 26 minutes of action.
