MONMOUTH, Ore. – Saint Martin's couldn't overcome Western Oregon's electric offense, and ultimately fell 108-73 on the road.
Saint Martin's (4-10, 2-3 GNAC) began the game with promising plays from multiple key players.
Alex Schumacher began the game with a three-pointer to give the Saints their first points of the night and first lead of the game.
Logan Rooney,
Marky Adams, and
John Moore scored within the following minutes to tie with Western Oregon (9-2, 3-2 GNAC). This shortly ended when WOU went on an offensive hot streak that proceeded to carry them throughout the rest of the game.
In the opening minutes, the Saints and the Wolves went shot for shot with ties at 5-5, 7-7, and 9-9. After baskets from both teams, WOU quickly took the momentum and went on a 14-2 run and never looked back.
SMU showed balanced scoring throughout the half, but were unable to recover from another WOU offensive surge, trailing 54-31 at halftime.
The Saints tried to recover in the second half, with a quick 6-0 run from Jennings and Moore, but Western Oregon continued to showcase their hot offense and capitalized on the Saint's continuous turnovers. Three-pointers continued to fall for the Wolves which widened their lead to as many as 38. SMU was unable to overcome the deficit and dropped the game 108-73.
Four different Saints scored in double-digits, with Schumacher leading with 14, while collecting six rebounds.
Demonte Malloy closely followed with 13 points along with three rebounds. Adams nearly ended with a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds while Rooney came off the bench for 11 points, three boards, and two assists.
CJ Jennings recorded nine points, grabbed six rebounds, and added three assists on the night.
Saint Martin's shot 27-for-53 (50.9 percent) from the field, 9-for-20 (45 percent) from beyond the arc, and 10-for-20 at the line. The Saints collected 34 rebounds, added 10 assists, seven steals, and two blocks on 27 turnovers.
