Saints' Baseball Voted Fourth In GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll - A season removed from reaching the program's first GNAC Championship game, the Saints were ranked fourth in the GNAC Preseason Coaches' Poll on Friday. Defending GNAC Champions, Montana State Billings, earned the first place ranking with four first place votes and 33 points total. Western Oregon, who nabbed one first place vote, followed closely behind with 31 points. Northwest Nazarene earned third overall with 22 points. Central Washington and Saint Martin's tied for fourth overall with 15 points, and Concordia rounded out the group with 10 points.
2020 Season Preview - Saint Martin's returns a core of key players from last year's squad, headlined by All-Region pitcher
Tanner Inouye. Inouye went 4-6 with a 4.58 ERA while striking out 87 in 72.2 innings of work. Inouye threw two completed games in 13 starts.
On the offensive side, All-Conference first baseman
Aaron Renaud leads the lineup with a .319 batting average, one home run, and 26 RBIs. Joining him in the infield is All-Conference shortstop
Ryne Oshiro, and All-Conference third baseman
Micah McNicoll. Oshiro is coming off a .283 season with three home runs and 22 RBIs. McNicoll developed into a .282 hitter with two home runs, and 16 RBIs.
Saint Martin's will also bring back their backstop from last season,
Bryant Nakagawa. The junior catcher posted a .227 batting average, with three extra base hits, and 17 hits.
Other notable returners from last season include infielder
Isaac Hegamin and
Dakota Hill, along with outfielders
Cody Chavis,
Elijiah Santiago, and
Hunter Holmason.
On the rubber, Saint Martin's will have familiar arms in
Benjamin Wadowski, and
Zach Alcos to add to Inouye.
