Box Score LACEY, Wash. - Saint Martin's jumped out to an early lead in the second inning; however, Montana State Billings responded in the fifth to tie the game to head into extra innings.
Â
Both teams were held scoreless up until the second inning, when Saint Martin's began their offensive streak at the plate.
Ty Matsunami hit a RBI single to bring in two, followed by
Micah McNicoll with a RBI single to score another one to put the Saints up three.Â
Â
With the Saints in the lead by three,
Harrison Goebel pitched two more shutout innings, allowing only one hit, to hold the lead for the Saints.
Â
It wasn't until the fifth inning that the Yellowjackets found their offense against Goebel, and managed to get three runs on the board to make it a tie game. With the bases loaded,
Ryan Driscoll came in for relief and finished the inning off with quick two outs to get Saint Martin's out of the pickle.
After Driscoll posted shutout innings in the sixth and seventh, SMU had one last opportunity to win the ballgame and the series in the bottom of the seventh. They got two hitters on base, but couldn't manage to bring them home and the score held at a tie at the end of the seventh inning. Â
Â
Due to a predetermined decision by both head coaches, the extra innings will be played at a later date, a consequence from yesterday's rain delays.
Â
Saint Martin's travels to Nampa, Idaho next week to face Northwest Nazarene for a four-game series. The first game is scheduled for Friday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. with live stats and video available at smusaints.com.Â
