Saints Drop Shootout To Western Washington

LACEY, Wash. – There was no shortage of action as the Saints and Western Washington went back-and-forth in goals. But a hat trick from Western Washington's Gilbert De La Luz headlined the Vikings' 4-3 victory.

Western Washington (3-7, 1-1) opened the action with a goal in the 14th minute, the first of the day by De La Luz. Then just six minutes later, Western Washington punched in an own goal to tie the match at 1-1. In the 32nd minute, Alex Whiting of WWU gave the Vikings a lead with his first goal of the year.

Out of halftime, it was Ethan Jud punched in his second goal of the season on a scrum in front of the net to tie up the match. The Saints struck again in the 59th minute when Brian Licona filtered a ball down the line to Jason Fairhurst. Fairhurst crossed the ball to the top of the box to a wide-open David Settle who found the back left corner of the net to put SMU on top 3-2.

The Saints' lead held until the 71st minute when De La Luz recorded his second goal. Eleven minutes later, the Vikings, and De La Luz scored the game-winning goal.
