Saints Narrowly Fall 1-0 To Northwest Nazarene

LACEY, Wash. – Saint Martin's controlled the majority of the match against Northwest Nazarene until the Nighthawks scored the game-winner on a 35-yard boot in the 82nd minute to stun the Saints 1-0 on Saturday.

Saint Martin's (3-11-0, 2-8-0) controlled both the pace and tempo for the whole first half, outpacing the Nighthawks (8-3-2, 6-3-1) in shots 10-to-3. However, the difference maker came in the 82nd minute when Northwest Nazarene's Madison Grande connected on a ball from 35-yards, going from the outside the right side of the box, to the upper left corner of the goal to steal a 1-0 victory.

The Saints midfield and forwards rifled off shot after shot against the Nighthawks' backline for the first 45 minutes. Their best opportunity came in the 44th when Mia Fleming's attempt narrowly bounced off the right post, just missing out on putting the Saints up 1-0 heading into half.

Saint Martin's continued the pressure for start of the second with Elisabeth Cole, and Taylor Goodpaster landing shots on goal in the opening 20 minutes. After 20 minutes though, the Nighthawks began to turn the momentum and eventually capped it off with a goal in the 82nd minute to leave Lacey with a 1-0 result.

Goodpaster recorded five of the Saints' 18 shots, followed by Fleming, Payton Aselton, and Rachel Kimura with two each. Ali Campigotto got the start in goal, recording eight saves on 19 shots.

Saint Martin's hits the road, traveling to Seattle Pacific on Thursday, October 28 for a 7:00 PM match. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
