ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Saints kept the match close in the first half, but gave up three unanswered goals in the second half to fall to Central Washington, 4-1.
The Wildcats (2-8-0, 1-5-0 GNAC) put the pressure on early with a goal scored in the 8th minute of play. Saint Martin's (3-7-0, 2-4-0 GNAC) made a timely response in the 17th minute of play with a goal from
Rachel Kimura.
Taylor Goodpaster,
Payton Aselton and
Rebecca Garrison all contributed shots to SMU offensive efforts but the first half ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
CWU found their rhythm in the second half scoring in the 52nd, 62nd and 88th minutes of the match. The Saint's fought hard to keep up with shots from Garrison,
Justine Pauly,
Sosna Araya and
Jordyn Jolley but no goals in the second half.
Ali Campigotto had two saves for the match on 16 shots faced.
Saint Martin's will be on the road again next week facing Western Washington on Thursday, October 14 and Western Oregon on Saturday October 16.
