Saints Come Back To Knock Off Cal State Monterey Bay

Saints Overcome Early Deficit For Second Win In California

SEASIDE, Calif. – After falling behind early, the Saints found their footing and rallied to take down Cal State Monterey Bay 73-66 on Saturday night.

Playing in their third game in just four days, the Saints (4-2) got off to a slow start, falling behind 14-3 to Monterey Bay (1-2). After the opening three minutes, the Saints outscored the Otters by 18 to claim their second win of the week. Brett Reed led the way with 21 points, and seven rebounds, his third 20+ point game of the season.

Trailing by 11, the Saints began chipping away from baskets down low from Reed and Marky Adams. It wasn't until the 7:51 minute mark in the first half that the Saints tied up the game at 20-20.

By the end of the half, Saint Martin's took a 33-28 lead into the break in part to a buzzer beater 3-pointer from Tyke Thompson.

Cal State Monterey Bay opened the second half on a 10-0 run to regain the lead. Adams broke the drought but both sides went back-and-forth fighting for a lead. The two sides traded the lead three times before the Saints found the first major lead of the second half.

With the score tied at 55-55 with 7:37 left in the half, Schumacher kicked off a 7-0 run by SMU with a 3-pointer. Baskets from Adams, and another for Schumacher pushed SMU to their largest lead of the game at 62-55 in just one minute.

The lead proved to be enough for the Saints as they closed at the game at the free throw line and held on for the 73-66 victory.

Saint Martin's returns to action on Thursday, December 2 at 7:30 PM against Alaska Anchorage at home. Live stats and video will be available on smusaints.com.
