Fairhurst Scores Pair to Lead Saints past NNU

LACEY, Wash. – Jason Fairhurst scored a goal in both halves to give Saint Martin's the season sweep against conference opponent Northwest Nazarene.
 
SMU (3-12-0, 2-6-0 GNAC) and the Nighthawks (6-8-0, 3-5-0 GNAC) battled all through the first half as both teams brought their best defense despite the downpour of rain. The turning point of the match came late in the first half, as Arjun Gill delivered a great pass to Fairhurst that led to the first goal of the match in the 39th minute. The Saints went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
 
After the break, Saint Martin's extended their lead with another Fairhurst goal off of a beautiful set up from Ethan Jud and David Settle in the 71st minute of the match. NNU responded with a goal of their own in the 80th minute, but SMU fended off all other late attempts to tie the match to secure the win at home.
 
Hunter Askland had two saves on three shots on goal. In addition to the Fairhurst goals, Gill and Stephen Murray contributed shots on goal.
