MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Saint Martin's pitching staff held a strong Western Oregon offense in check most of the day; however, the Saints' offense was unable to provide the run support in the 4-0 and 1-0 loss.
Saint Martin's (4-12, 1-9 GNAC) featured good pitching outings from starters
Tanner Inouye and
Finnley Butler, while
Ryan Ancheta and
James Gunther posted strong relief performances out of the ben. But it was the Western Oregon (8-4, 7-3 GNAC) who limited the Saints to only three hits on the day to secure the doubleheader sweep.
Cody Isa collected both hits for the Saints in the opener, while
Aaron Renaud was the lone Saint in the second game with a hit. The Saints' reached runners into scoring position twice on the day, but was unable to convert on the chances.
Western Oregon used two sacrifice flies, and a solo home run in the first game to take the 4-0 win. It wasn't until the sixth inning of the second game that the Wolves managed to manufacture the game-winning run to cap off the day.
The Saints and Western Oregon will square off twice on Saturday to close out the weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM with live stats and streaming available on smusaints.com.
