LACEY, Wash. – Against the premier offense not only in the GNAC, but in the country, Saints' ace Tanner Inouye had silenced the bats of Montana State Billings heading into the seventh. However, with two outs, and the bases-loaded, a clutch bases-clearing double sealed the game for MSUB 6-to-5.
 
Inouye quickly got run support from his team when in the first, Griffin Williams drove in two with his single up the middle. It wasn't until the third inning when the Yellowjackets managed to finally break through and get a solo blast off Inouye to get on the board.
 
After MSUB tied the game in the fourth, Cody Isa put Saint Martin's back on top with his RBI single down the right field line.
 
The score held 3-to-2 until the seventh and final inning. Inouye, with his pitch count around 120, came back onto the field to close out the game. After two quick outs, and on the verge of icing the complete game, Inouye allowed a base runner on hit-by-pitch. The Yellowjackets followed it with a single and walk to load the bases.
 
Pinch-hitter Chris Arpan with the count 1-1, caught a break on a check swing, and with his extra life, was able to barely keep his line drive fair down the left field line. The hit drove in three and the Yellowjackets took the lead. MSUB eventually added another run in the inning to take a 6-to-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
 
Cody Chavis tripled to left to start the rally, scoring Isa, and putting the tying run at the plate. Williams once again drove in a run with a single up the middle. A passed ball, and an error later, set up the Saints with runners on first and third, trailing by one with two outs. However, the Yellowjackets shut the door on the comeback with a strikeout.
 
The second game of the doubleheader was halted heading into the top of the sixth with the score MSUB 3, SMU 2. Resumption of the game will take place tomorrow, April 23 at 10:30 AM PST. Live stats and streaming of the game will be available on smusaints.com.
