NAMPA, Idaho – Resuming action from a lighting/weather delay on Saturday, the Saints' baseball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader to nationally ranked Northwest Nazarene on Monday.
Northwest Nazarene scored the opening nine runs of the first game before the Saints cut into the lead with help from the long ball.
Dakota Hill's 3-run home run and
Michael Yamaguchi's solo blast, followed by
Mark Steward's solo shot brought SMU to within three.
However, the Nighthawks' offense did more damage in the later innings, and coasted to the 16-6 victory.
In the second game, it was a pitcher's duel until the fourth inning.
Aaron Renaud broke the scoreless game with a solo shot to put SMU on top. However, after four shutout inning from starter
Zach Alcos, the Nighthawks' bats came alive in the fifth.
NNU scored all six of their runs in the inning, and built up enough of a cushion to take the finale. Saint Martin's managed to add one more in the sixth on a RBI single from Steward before eventually falling.
Saint Martin's returns home to face Western Oregon in their final home series of 2021. Live stats and video of the games will be available on smusaints.com.
