Wolves Take Both In Doubleheader Loss

LACEY, Wash. – The Saints' second to last home doubleheader did not go the way Saint Martin's had hoped for, dropping both games to the Western Oregon, 8-4 and 12-1 on Thursday.

In the opening game, the Saints jumped out to a quick start, with Mark Steward singling to bring in the first runner, then Reid Little singling down the baseline to bring home another two runners.

Western Oregon finally got on the board in the top of the third, but the Saints added one more run to their lead in the next half inning off a double from Cody Chavis. This would be the Saints' last run of the game, as the Wolves scored two runs in each of the next three innings to take the game 8-4.

Finnley Butler (1-2) got the start, going five innings, allowing six runs on eight hits. Ryan Ancheta pitched the final four innings, allowing two runs on four hits.

In the second game, the Saints' bats were slow going, and didn't get their first runner on base until the third inning. The Wolves jumped to a lead in the top of the third, with three runs, and continued to add to that lead over the next four innings.

Hunter Kosmider put a stop to the perfect game bid with a sac fly to bring in Drew Forgione in the bottom of the seventh. The Saints' last comeback attempt was cut short with a double play by WOU to end the game and take home their second victory.

Justice Yamashita (1-2) got the start for the Saints, pitching five innings, allowing eight runs on 12 hits, throwing one strikeout. Derek Alumbaugh came in for the next inning, allowing one run on two hits, with two strikeouts. Mason Machart and Logan Caravalho each came in for relief in the seventh inning, allowing three runs on two hits.
